Where's Paul?
A number of local fire departments and ASTTBC are engaged on a search similar to a version of the popular children's book series Find Waldo™. They would really like to talk to the individual responsible for incorrectly tagging off on several fire extinguishers and emergency lighting units that actually require service of one kind or another (six year maintenance, hydro-testing, new batteries, etc.). He's doing this work in jurisdictions requiring ASTTBC Registered Fire Protection Technicians. They're looking for the office and a valid telephone number for Paul's Fire Prevention and they're having little or no success. If you can help call us at 778-863-7147 or 604-468-8324 (TECH).
His typical MO (that's Police terminology for Modus Operandi) involves "hitting up" tenants of a shopping mall or commercial/industrial complex and offering to service their extinguishers and emergency lights for a substantially reduced price because he just happens to be in the area. His tags don't provide an office address and the only contact information that's furnished is a telephone number that apparently isn't even his. Individuals that have employed his services are always dismayed to learn that he isn't properly certified and will have to have their equipment re-tested by a qualified technician at their additional expense. Has anyone bothered to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau??

More Bogus Verifications!
The City of Vancouver is currently engaged in investigating a manufacturer verified fire alarm system that doesn't even meet the wiring requirements stipulated in their installation manual! How the heck could this happen? I figure they didn't have a trained tech on hand when the day of the inspection arrived and sent out the office filing clerk (or maybe they've got Paul's contact info!). This is only the tip of the iceberg, folks.

Firetechs.net introduces RSS Feed for Bulletins and Recalls!
OK. So I'm blowin' my own horn, dagnab-it! I thought I'd give you guys a hand to keep up with the latest developments. :-)
THE iPHONE REALLY ROCKS!
What's been your experience? I've got the 16GB unit running version 3.0 software, and I track my day on it, get and send email, surf the web. Only thing that bugs me is the number of websites that aren't friendly menu wise (one of them happens to be ASTTBC's)! It's also got a handy "level" application you can download and the real-time GPS and mapping funcitons are awesome. Just don't drop the sucker. It's 800 smackers to replace (not that I have)!
